A growing trend in the United Kingdom and other countries is “de-baptism.” In a reactionary move against the politics of the Catholic Church and the Pope, over 100,000 people in the U.K. alone downloaded “de-baptism” certificates. The National Secular Society provides them online, at a cost, for those who wish to renounce their faith publicly.
As with all other trends in the European nations, this too will begin to make its way into the United States if it hasn’t already. Scripturally speaking, baptism doesn’t provide and could never provide an ounce of righteousness before God. But viewed from the larger cultural context, baptism is at least an acknowledgement of a belief in God. The “de-baptism” movement is further indication that not only is our society becoming apathetic about God, it is becoming downright hostile.

Greetings for Michigan. I have really enjoyed reading your last two posting in your Church Trends series. Keep up the good work. Have you look at my defense and confirmation blog?
