(Some of you previously received the daily devotional “The Renewed Mind.” I stopped distributing it several months ago but haven’t stopped writing. I do plan to begin distribution again in the near future. Here is a sample.)
Colossians 3:1 – ” If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
If ye then be risen with Christ
This is not a conditional “if.” It isn’t an uncertain “if.” It is based on something already concluded as true. We are certain that those of us in Christ are risen with Christ. This is a fact that was already established. Check out Romans 6 to see that in Christ, we are spiritually dead, buried, and resurrected.
In Christ, we’ve already experienced resurrection life. We are risen with Him. We are no longer dead in our trespasses and sins. Many times, this thought never moves out of our mentality. But it also means our experience is no longer that of a spiritually dead person. So we are not bound to live our lives as a spiritually dead person. We have the capacity to experience the resurrected life in our every day life.
Seek those things which are above
Now that we have resurrection life, we are free to search out the unseeable. In other words, we are free to live by faith. Those things which are above are out of the realm of sight but we can still experience them. The things above can only be comprehended by revelation and illumination. As we spend time with the Lord in His Word and in prayer, He illuminates to us those things which are above which are revealed in His Word.
These things are not here on this earth. Our flesh cannot co-exist or experience those things which are above. Our flesh has no compatibility with those things we are to search out. True love, true forgiveness, true honesty, true Truth are all things we can have right now!
Where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God
Those things we are compatible with in resurrection are part of the environment where Christ Himself reigns. Normal life for us now is in that realm, not in this earthly realm. The “air” we breathe in order to live a normal Christian life is drawn from the atmosphere of heaven. It is not contaminated with the pollution of this earth. It is pure air, living air, life-giving air.
